Career paths with C# and .NET in India
Explanation
Where C# is used in Indian companies
Large IT services companies run .NET projects for banks, insurers, retailers and governments around the world, and hire freshers for them every year. Product companies and startups use ASP.NET Core for back ends. Many enterprises (hospitals, manufacturers, logistics firms) run internal tools built with .NET. Game studios in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and elsewhere use Unity.
Job roles
| Role | What you do | Skills to add to this course |
|---|---|---|
| .NET / ASP.NET Core backend developer | Build APIs, business logic and database code | SQL, REST design, authentication (JWT), basic cloud |
| Full-stack .NET developer | Back end plus a web front end | HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Angular |
| Enterprise / desktop developer | Maintain and extend business apps, often WPF or WinForms | WPF/XAML basics, older .NET Framework code reading |
| Azure / cloud developer | Run .NET apps on Azure services | Azure App Service, Functions, storage, CI/CD |
| Test automation engineer | Automated UI and API tests in C# | Playwright or Selenium for .NET, xUnit/NUnit |
| Unity game developer | Gameplay, UI and tools in Unity | Unity editor, physics, animation, maths for games |
Honest salary ranges
These are rough ranges seen in Indian job listings and salary surveys; they change with the market, the city (Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and NCR usually pay more), the company type and your skills. Treat them as a guide, not a promise.
| Level | Typical range (per year) |
|---|---|
| Fresher .NET developer | About ₹3.5 to 7 LPA (services companies often at the lower end; product companies and some startups higher) |
| 2 to 5 years | About ₹6 to 15 LPA |
| 5 to 8+ years, senior / lead | About ₹15 to 30 LPA, more for architects and strong product-company roles |
| Fresher Unity developer | About ₹3 to 6 LPA, widely varying by studio |
Certifications
Certifications are not required for most fresher .NET jobs; projects and interview skills matter more. If you want one, Microsoft Learn lists the current Microsoft credentials, including developer and Azure certifications, and offers free learning paths. Microsoft retires and renames exams regularly, so check the Microsoft Learn credentials page for the current names before you prepare.
Where to find jobs
- Campus placements and off-campus drives of IT services companies.
- Job portals such as Naukri and LinkedIn; search ".NET developer fresher", "ASP.NET Core", "C# developer", "Unity developer".
- Company career pages directly, especially product companies and startups.
- Internships: even a 3 to 6 month internship counts as real experience on your CV.
- Open source: small fixes to .NET libraries on GitHub show you can work on real codebases.
A CV that works
- One page for freshers. Skills grouped: C#, .NET, ASP.NET Core, EF Core, SQL, Git, xUnit.
- Projects first, with GitHub links and one line each on what YOU built and the result.
- Only list what you can explain in an interview.
- Numbers where honest: "API with 12 endpoints and 40 unit tests".
Common mistakes and fixes
- Learning only C# syntax: employers expect SQL and Git too. Practise both alongside this course.
- Ignoring older code: many jobs maintain .NET Framework apps. Being able to read them is valuable.
- Applying everywhere with the same CV: adjust it to each role (backend, full-stack, Unity).
- Waiting until you "know everything": apply once your portfolio project works.

In real life: Two different paths from the same course
Ravi from Indore and Sneha from Kochi both finished a C# course. Ravi added SQL and React, built a clinic booking API with a small React page, and joined a product startup as a full-stack .NET developer. Sneha spent two extra months on Unity Learn, published two small mobile games, and joined a game studio as a junior Unity developer. Same language, different second skills.

Besides C#, which skills do almost all .NET backend jobs expect?
A company asks for a ₹25,000 "training deposit" before your joining letter. What should you do?
Choose one target role (backend .NET, full-stack .NET or Unity). Find 5 real job listings for it, list the skills that appear in at least 3 of them, mark which ones this course covered, and write a 60-day plan for the missing ones. Then draft a one-page CV with your portfolio project at the top.
