How to tailor your resume to a job

  1. Choose your resume (PDF or Word) or paste it. Each section is read into an editor you can change.
  2. Paste the job description. The keyword match shows how much of what the job asks for your resume mentions.
  3. Press Tailor my resume. Relevant achievements and skills move up, weak openings become action verbs, and the summary is written for this role.
  4. Click the missing terms you genuinely have to add them. Edit anything; the preview and ATS score update as you type.
  5. Pick a template, colour and watermark, then download the PDF to apply, or the Word file to keep editing.

What makes a resume pass an ATS

  • One column, read top to bottom.
  • Standard section names: Summary, Skills, Experience, Education.
  • Dates in a form a parser understands, like Mar 2021 – Present.
  • The job's own words for the skills you have, used where you describe the work.

Already have a finished resume? Check it with the ATS checker, or compare it with one posting in the keyword matcher.

Frequently asked questions

Does it make things up to match the job?

No. It reorders what you already have, rewrites weak openings ("Responsible for managing" becomes "Managed"), and writes a summary from your own titles, years and skills. Skills from the job ad are only added when you click them to confirm you have them. Every change is listed, and Undo tailoring puts your original back.

Why is the resume one column with plain headings?

Because that is what applicant tracking systems read reliably. Two columns, tables, text boxes and icons are the usual reasons a good resume comes out scrambled in a recruiter’s database. The live preview runs the same check as the ATS checker on every change, so you can see the score.

Will the watermark confuse an ATS?

No. The watermark is drawn as a faint picture, not as text, so a parser extracting your resume never sees it. Turn it off before you apply if the employer has not asked for it; it is most useful for drafts you share for review.

Which files can I start from?

A PDF with real text, a Word .docx file, a .txt file, or pasted text. A scanned PDF has no text in it; read it with Image to text or OCR PDF first. You can also start from blank or try the example.

Is my resume uploaded?

No. It is read, tailored, checked and written as PDF and Word entirely in this browser tab. There is no account and no copy kept anywhere.
