Add Name and Date on Photo

Print your name and the date the photo was taken in a white band under your photo, the way NEET and other forms ask, at the size and KB limit needed.

A recent passport-style photo on a white background
The band is part of the photo. The bottom fifth of the picture becomes a white strip with your name and the date in black, and the photo above it is cropped to fit, so the file keeps the size the form asks for. Check the current information bulletin for your exam: some years ask for it, others do not.

What the finished photo looks like

Your photo fills the top four fifths of the picture. Below it is a white band with your name on the first line and the date on the second, in bold black letters, centred. The whole picture stays at the size the form asks for, so it uploads without being squashed.

Getting the photo right first

  • White or very light plain background, face straight to the camera, both ears visible.
  • The face and ears should take up about 80% of the photo area, as NTA's rules ask.
  • No cap and no dark glasses.

If your photo needs cropping or a lighter background first, use the passport photo maker, then add the name and date here.

Keep a copy without the band

The same exam may also ask for a postcard-size photo, or a plain passport photo elsewhere in the form. Keep your original file, and make each version from it.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some exams want the name and date on the photo?

To show the photograph is recent and belongs to the candidate. NTA has asked NEET candidates in several years for a passport-size photo with the candidate’s name and the date of taking the photograph printed at the bottom, and some UPSC notices have asked for the same. Requirements change from year to year, so check the information bulletin for your exam before uploading.

What size does the NEET preset use?

JPEG, 10–200 KB, passport-style with a white background. The preset makes 413 × 531 px (3.5 × 4.5 cm at 300 DPI) between the size limits in The Daily Toolbox's requirements database, taken from National Testing Agency (https://nta.ac.in/, last checked 2026-08-16). The UPSC preset makes a 500 × 500 px square within UPSC's 20–300 KB, 350 × 350 px minimum range.

Which date should I put?

The date the photo was taken, not the date you fill in the form. If the photo file recorded it (phone cameras do), the tool reads it and fills it in for you. Exams want a recent photo, typically taken within the last few months.

Will the name be cut off if it is long?

No. The text is made smaller until the whole name fits across the band. Very long names end up in a smaller font; if that is too small to read, use initials for middle names, as many candidates do.

Should the name be in capital letters?

Most bulletins do not say, but capitals are easiest to read at this size, so the tool uses them by default. Turn them off if your form asks for the name as written.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The name and date are drawn onto the photo in your browser, and the JPG is compressed to your KB limit there too.
