From any photo to a passport photo
Take a photo with your phone or laptop camera, or choose one you already have. You do not need a white wall: the tool separates you from the background and puts you on a plain colour. Then it frames your head the way the requirement asks, crops to the exact size in pixels and brings the file under the size limit.
- Pick the requirement: Indian passport, OCI, US passport or visa, UK, Schengen, exam forms and more.
- Take a photo with the camera (a 3-second timer helps) or choose a photo.
- The face is found, a tilted head is straightened and the background is replaced.
- Check the framing: the top of the head and the chin sit on the dashed lines. Drag the box if needed.
- Download the photo for the online form, and the print sheet for paper copies.
How it works
Two small AI models run in your browser. MediaPipe's face detector finds your eyes, nose and mouth; from them the tool works out where your chin is and how far your head is tilted. MODNet, a model made for portraits, decides for every pixel how much of it is you, and the edge is refined against the photo so hair stays natural. The crown of the head is taken from that outline, so the head size matches what passport rules measure: from the top of the hair to the chin.
Tips for a photo that passes
- Face the camera straight on, eyes open, mouth closed, with even light and no shadows on the face.
- Keep your shoulders in the picture; a photo cut off at the chin looks unnatural.
- Remove glasses if the requirement says so (India and the US do).
- Any wall works, but a lighter, plainer one gives the cleanest edge around the hair.
Already have a photo against a proper plain wall? The passport photo maker crops and sizes it without touching the background. For a cut-out with a transparent or blurred background, use the background remover.
