Project · Spoken English: Zero to Fluent
Project: your first week in a new city
The brief
You have moved to a new city, such as Pune, Bengaluru or Hyderabad, for a job or college. Over six "days" you meet your PG owner, send a parcel, shop, eat out with a new friend, chat with a colleague and send a voice note home. You write each script, record it, and keep a self-review log.
Why it matters
Lakhs of young people move to a new city every year for work or study, and much of their first week happens in simple English: with landlords, couriers, shopkeepers, waiters and colleagues from other states. If you can handle these six situations, you can manage daily life anywhere in India in English.
Skills you practise
- introducing yourself
- numbers, addresses and prices
- polite shopping and ordering
- past and future small talk
- speaking for 60 to 90 seconds
You need
- A phone with a voice recorder app
- Optional: a friend or family member to play the other person
What you will have at the end
Your week-scripts.txt, your review-log.txt and six voice recordings, ending with a 60 to 90 second voice note about your first week.

Step 1 of 6
Day 1: meet your PG owner
You have recorded a short introduction to your PG owner or landlord, with two polite questions.
Fill in Day 1 in week-scripts.txt. Greet the owner for the right time of day, give your name, home town and what you do, and say when you start. Then ask two practical questions: "What time is dinner?" "What time does the gate close?" Write the length of the recording and one improvement in review-log.txt.
Your notes: week-scripts.txt, review-log.txt
Write down each command you ran. It goes into your project summary.
