Comparing: bigger, more expensive, the best

Explanation

To compare two things, add -er or use "more": "Delhi is bigger than Shimla." "This phone is more expensive than that one." For the top one in a group, use -est or "the most": "the tallest", "the most beautiful". तुलना करने के लिए comparative और superlative।

Hindi compares with "से": "दिल्ली शिमला से बड़ा है". English uses a changed adjective + "than": "Delhi is bigger than Shimla." An adjective (विशेषण) is a describing word like big, cheap, beautiful.

Careful: Common mistakes: "more better" (say "better"), "more cheaper" (say "cheaper"), "best than" (say "better than"), "elder than" (say "older than"; "elder" is not used with "than").
Careful: Do not drop "the" before superlatives: "She is best student" should be "She is the best student."
Tip: Compare two things you know well: two cities, two phones, two shops, two cricketers. Make three sentences for each pair.
