Project exam: a clinic token app
The brief
A timed, hands-on exam. In two and a half hours, build the token system for City Care Clinic's reception: the wait-time and status logic in plain Dart, a queue shared with Provider, the reception screen, a validated registration form, a layout for the reception desktop, a clean analysis and release builds. Each task is checked from the output you paste; no hints or answers are shown until you hand it in.
Why it matters
Flutter hiring tests and client trial tasks look like this: a small but complete app against the clock, judged on whether it works, whether the tests pass and whether it builds. Clinics, banks and government offices across India use token systems like this every day.
Skills you practise
- Dart functions and string formatting
- sealed classes, records and patterns
- unit tests
- ChangeNotifier and Provider
- widget tests
- Form validation
- LayoutBuilder
- flutter analyze
- flutter build apk and web
You need
- Flutter 3.24 or newer (stable), with Android Studio or VS Code, set up and working before you start
- A new project made before the timer starts: flutter create --org com.example clinic_tokens, then flutter pub add provider, and delete test/widget_test.dart
- Two and a half hours without interruptions
What you will have at the end
The clinic_tokens app: tested wait-time and status logic, a Provider queue, a reception screen, a validated registration form, a desktop and phone layout, a clean analysis, and release builds for Android and the web, all within 150 minutes.
How it is marked (rubric, 100 points)
| Dart logicTasks 1 to 3: exact wait-time text, an exhaustive switch over the sealed statuses, a summary record, and five passing unit tests. | 20 |
|---|---|
| State and screensTasks 4 to 6: a correct queue, a reception screen that rebuilds from it, and a form that rejects bad input with the exact messages. | 35 |
| Responsive layoutTask 7: side by side at 840 px and wider, stacked on phones. | 15 |
| Quality and releaseTasks 8 and 9: no analysis issues, all 15 tests passing together, and both release builds made. | 30 |

Rules: a project exam
- Do each task on your own machine, then paste the command output into its box here.
- Work alone, without notes or a search engine, as in the real exam.
- No hints and no answers. You can run your code, but the checks run only when you hand in.
- Every task is checked automatically when you hand in, or when the time is up.
- You see which tasks passed at the end. You can take it again.
