Lab: a private S3 bucket for a kirana shop
The brief
Sharma Kirana Store in Pune wants its daily price list kept safely in the cloud. Make an S3 bucket in Mumbai, upload the price list, prove that the bucket is private, estimate the monthly bill in Python, and delete everything at the end.
Why it matters
Almost every company keeps files in S3 or its Azure and Google equivalents: invoices, product photos, backups and reports. Creating a bucket in the right region, checking that it is not public and knowing what it will cost are daily tasks for a cloud support associate, and forgetting to clean up is the most common way learners get a bill.

- A free AWS account with a budget alert set (lab cc-lab-safe-account)
- AWS CLI v2 configured with an IAM Identity Center or IAM user profile, not root, region ap-south-1 (or AWS CloudShell in Mumbai)

Make the bucket in Mumbai
A bucket named kirana-prices-<yourname>-<4 digits> exists, and its location is ap-south-1.
Bucket names are shared by every AWS customer in the world, so pick one nobody has: kirana-prices-, then your name, then four random digits, all lower case. aws s3 mb (make bucket) creates it; --region ap-south-1 keeps the data in Mumbai.
get-bucket-location then tells you where it really is. If it prints null, the bucket is in us-east-1 (North Virginia): delete it and make it again with the region. Storing a few kilobytes costs a tiny fraction of a cent, within free credits.
