Project exam: cloud practitioner hands-on lab
The brief
A timed, hands-on exam in 90 minutes. Four tasks in Python check that you can do the cloud maths (a monthly bill, the availability of a redundant design, subnet sizing, an IAM decision with a region condition). Four tasks in your own AWS account check that you can work safely: not as root, an encrypted bucket in Mumbai, public access blocked, and everything cleaned up. No hints or answers are shown until you hand it in.
Why it matters
Certifications such as AWS Cloud Practitioner and Azure AZ-900 test the ideas with multiple-choice questions, but employers want to see that you can do the work. This exam checks both the thinking (costs, availability, networks, permissions) and the habits (identity, region, encryption, clean-up) that a cloud support associate uses every day.
Skills you practise
- cost estimates
- availability in series and in parallel
- CIDR sizing with the 5 reserved addresses
- IAM evaluation with conditions
- aws sts get-caller-identity
- S3 default encryption and Block Public Access
- cleaning up
You need
- A free AWS account with a budget alert set
- AWS CLI v2 configured with an IAM Identity Center or IAM user profile, not root, region ap-south-1 (or AWS CloudShell in Mumbai)
- 90 minutes without interruptions
What you will have at the end
A passed, timed exam: exam.py with four working functions and pasted proof of a safe identity, an encrypted private bucket in Mumbai, and its clean-up.
How it is marked (rubric, 100 points)
| Cloud mathsThe bill, availability, subnet and IAM tasks all pass. | 40 |
|---|---|
| Safe practiceNon-root identity, a bucket in ap-south-1 with SSE-S3 and all public access blocked. | 35 |
| Clean-upThe bucket was deleted and proven gone within the exam time. | 15 |

Rules: a project exam
- Do each task on your own machine, then paste the command output into its box here.
- Work alone, without notes or a search engine, as in the real exam.
- No hints and no answers. You can run your code, but the checks run only when you hand in.
- Every task is checked automatically when you hand in, or when the time is up.
- You see which tasks passed at the end. You can take it again.
