How the conversion works
The katha (kattha, cottah) is always a fraction of the local bigha: a twentieth in Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, a fifth in Assam. That is why Assam’s katha is four times Bengal’s.
Kolkata flat and plot prices are quoted per katha, so 3 katha there is 2,160 sq ft. In Bihar, a kattha is further divided into 20 dhur.
