An Aadhaar PDF (e-Aadhaar), a scan, or a photo of a card or document
Your document is not uploaded. It is read and changed in this browser tab. The saved file has each page as a picture with the areas blacked out, not a black layer on top that could be removed.

How to mask an Aadhaar number

  1. Choose the Aadhaar PDF or a photo of the card. Enter the password if it asks for one.
  2. The Aadhaar number is found and its first 8 digits covered. Turn on PAN, mobile or email to hide those too.
  3. Check each page; drag to cover anything else, or tap × to uncover a box.
  4. Download the masked PDF or photo.

Also good for

  • Blacking out account numbers on a bank statement before sending it.
  • Hiding names, addresses and phone numbers in a document you share.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Aadhaar uploaded?

No. The PDF or photo is read and changed inside this browser tab. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.

What is a masked Aadhaar?

An Aadhaar with the first 8 digits hidden and only the last 4 showing, like XXXX XXXX 1234. It is accepted in many places that only need to see you have an Aadhaar, and it is safer to share.

My e-Aadhaar PDF asks for a password.

The e-Aadhaar password is the first 4 letters of your name, in capitals, followed by your year of birth, for example RAHU1990.

Can the hidden numbers be uncovered?

No. Each page is saved as a picture with the areas painted black, so the text underneath is gone, not just covered by a box that could be moved.

It did not find the number in my photo.

Numbers in photos and scans are read by OCR, which can miss blurred or angled text. Drag on the page to cover the number yourself.
