One PDF, any size

The usual 200 KB uploads

Admission and recruitment forms often allow around 200 KB per document for things like a class 10 or 12 mark sheet, a degree certificate, a caste or income certificate, or an Aadhaar or PAN card copy. That is enough room for a clear, readable copy, provided the scan is not much larger than it needs to be.

Photos of documents

A phone photo of a certificate is often 3 to 5 MB as a JPG. Put it into a PDF with Images to PDF first (crop it to the paper), then compress the PDF here. Or, if the form accepts images, compress the photo directly with the image compressor.

Several documents, one upload

When a form wants all certificates in a single PDF under 200 KB, merge them first, then compress: the compressor shares the budget across the pages. Greyscale helps most here.

Frequently asked questions

What fits in 200 KB?

A typed document of almost any length, a one- or two-page colour scan rendered at about 150 DPI, or roughly three to six greyscale scanned pages. A scanned ID card front and back on one page fits easily.

Should I scan in colour or black and white?

Black and white (greyscale) unless the form says colour. A colour scan is roughly two to three times larger than a greyscale one of the same page, and for a printed certificate the colour carries no information. Keep colour for documents where it matters, such as a photo ID or a coloured seal the portal asks to see.

Does compressing to 200 KB blur the text?

Not for a typed PDF: its text stays as real text and only the images inside are reduced. A scan is a picture of text, so it is re-rendered at a lower resolution; at 200 KB a page usually keeps about 150 DPI, which is sharp on screen. The preview shows the result before you download.

My Aadhaar or PAN PDF is password-protected. Can it be compressed?

Not while it is locked. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF (you need to know it, for e-Aadhaar it is the first four letters of your name in capitals and your year of birth), then compress the unlocked copy here.

Is my document uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser. Certificates and ID proofs carry exactly the personal details that should not be sent to an unknown server.
