Volume Booster: Make Audio and Video Louder

Make a quiet recording, voice note or video louder: raise it by decibels or bring it to a standard loudness, with a limiter so it does not distort. Nothing is uploaded.

MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, a voice note, or a video (MP4, MOV)

How to make audio or video louder

  1. Choose a sound file or a video.
  2. Pick how much louder (+6 to +20 dB, or any amount up to +30), or Standard loudness.
  3. Press Make it louder, listen to the result and download it.

To change the format afterwards, use the audio converter. To keep only the sound of a video, use video to MP3.

The engine behind this tool

Video and sound are processed by FFmpeg, the open-source engine behind most of the world's video software, compiled to run inside your browser as ffmpeg.wasm. It is downloaded from this site (about 31 MB) the first time you use a video or audio tool, and your browser keeps it for next time. FFmpeg and ffmpeg.wasm are free software, licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later; their source code is at github.com/ffmpegwasm/ffmpeg.wasm.

Frequently asked questions

How much louder should I make it?

About +10 dB sounds twice as loud. For a recording that is hard to hear, +10 to +15 dB is usually right. If you are not sure, choose "Standard loudness": it measures the recording and sets it to the level podcasts use.

Will it distort?

Not from clipping: a limiter holds the loudest moments just under the maximum, so peaks are not cut off. Pushing a lot (+20 dB or more) flattens loud and soft parts together, and any background hiss gets louder too.

Does it work on videos?

Yes. Choose an MP4, MOV or other video: only its sound is changed, and the picture is copied as it is where MP4 can hold it, so it is quick and the picture quality stays the same.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The volume is changed on your own device by FFmpeg running in this browser tab.
