Percent-codes in and out

Paste a link full of %20 and %E0%A4 codes to read it, or encode a value before putting it in a link. Hindi and other scripts work in both directions because the tool uses UTF-8, as browsers do.

Read long links

Shared links often carry a dozen parameters. The parts table lists each one decoded, so you can see what a link really contains before you open or share it. To put a link into a QR code, use the QR code generator.

Frequently asked questions

What is URL encoding?

Web addresses may only contain a small set of characters. Anything else, a space, an ampersand, a Hindi letter, is written as % followed by two hexadecimal digits for each byte of its UTF-8 form. A space becomes %20, and न becomes %E0%A4%A8.

Which encoding should I choose?

"Part of a URL" (encodeURIComponent) for a single value such as a search term or a parameter, because it also encodes / ? & = which would otherwise break the address. "Whole URL" (encodeURI) for a complete address, leaving its structure alone. "Form" for data sent like an HTML form, where spaces become +.

Why does decoding fail?

A % must be followed by two hexadecimal digits, and the codes together must make valid UTF-8. A lone "%" or a code cut in half by a copy and paste stops decoding; the error says where.

What does the parts table show?

When the text is a full address, it is split into scheme, host, port, path and fragment, and every query parameter is listed with its value decoded, which makes long tracking links easy to read.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. Encoding, decoding and splitting happen in your browser.
