How to turn text into a PDF

  1. Type or paste your text, or open a .txt or .md file. Add a title if you want one at the top.
  2. Choose how it is laid out: flowing paragraphs, every line as typed, Markdown, or code.
  3. Pick the page size, orientation, text size and margins. The preview updates as you go.
  4. Press Download.

Good for

  • Notes, letters and applications typed on a phone, as a PDF to send or print.
  • Text copied from an email or a chat, tidied into proper paragraphs.
  • A Markdown file or a README as a printable document.
  • Code or a log file, with every space kept, in a fixed-width font.

For headings, colours, tables and pictures, write it in the online Word editor and save it as a PDF from there. To put several PDFs together, use merge PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded?

No. The PDF is made inside this browser tab. What you type is kept only in this browser, so a reload does not lose it, until you clear it.

Can I write in Hindi or another Indian language?

Yes. Text in Devanagari and other scripts is drawn with fonts that have its letters, so the PDF shows it correctly and the words can still be selected and searched.

What is the difference between "Paragraphs" and "Keep every line"?

Text copied from an email or a website often has line breaks in the middle of sentences. "Paragraphs" joins those lines back up and starts a new paragraph only at a blank line. "Keep every line" keeps each line as you typed it, which suits addresses, lists, poems and forms.

Can I add headings and bold text?

Choose "Markdown" and write # before a line for a heading, **two stars** around words for bold and *one star* for italic, and start lines with - or 1. for lists. For a full document with colours, tables and pictures, use the online Word editor.

Can I copy text out of the PDF?

Yes. The PDF holds real text, not a picture of it, so it can be selected, copied and searched, and it stays small.
