Rotate and Flip a Video

Turn a sideways or upside-down video the right way up (90°, 180° or 270°) or mirror it. An MP4 or iPhone video is turned in seconds without losing quality. Nothing is uploaded.

Private · on device. Runs in your browser: your file is not uploaded. No sign-up.

MP4, MOV (iPhone), MKV, WebM, AVI or 3GP, up to 2 GB

How to rotate a video

  1. Choose the video. The preview shows it turned as you choose.
  2. Pick 90° right, 180° or 90° left, and a mirror if you want one.
  3. Press Rotate video and download the result.

To make the video smaller after turning it, use compress video. To fit it to a Reel or Story, use resize video.

The engine behind this tool

Video and sound are processed by FFmpeg, the open-source engine behind most of the world's video software, compiled to run inside your browser as ffmpeg.wasm. It is downloaded from this site (about 31 MB) the first time you use a video or audio tool, and your browser keeps it for next time. FFmpeg and ffmpeg.wasm are free software, licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later; their source code is at github.com/ffmpegwasm/ffmpeg.wasm.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is turned on your own device by FFmpeg running in this browser tab, and never leaves it.

Will turning the video lower its quality?

Not for an MP4 or an iPhone/Android video: only the rotation flag that players read is changed, so the picture is copied exactly and it takes seconds. Mirroring, and formats without such a flag (WebM, MKV, AVI), are re-encoded to H.264, which looks the same to most eyes but takes about as long as the video.

The video still shows sideways in one app. What now?

A few apps and older players ignore the rotation flag. Switch on "Turn the picture itself" and save again: the frames themselves are turned, so it shows the right way up everywhere.

Why was my phone video sideways in the first place?

Phones record with the sensor one way up and save how the phone was held as a rotation flag. If the phone guessed wrong (lying flat, or turned during filming), the flag is wrong. Turning the video here corrects the flag.

Can I mirror a selfie video?

Yes. "Flip left to right" mirrors it, so writing in the picture reads the right way round.
